대구경북과학기술원은 세계 초일류 융복합 연구중심대학으로 도약하기 위해 단계별 비전과 발전목표를 세우고, 창의적 글로벌 인재양성 및 미래 융복합 기술창출을 위해 2004년 국책연구기관으로 출범하여 대학원 석·박사과정을 개설하고 2014년에는 학사과정을 개설하여 명실상부한 연구중심대학으로 거듭나는 계기를 마련하였다. 이러한 비전과 발전 목표를 천명하고, 성공적인 학사캠퍼스 건설을 위해 DGIST VISION 선포식 및 학사캠퍼스 기공식을 거행한 지 어느덧 몇 해가 지나고 이제는 그 결실을 거두는 단계가 되었다. 미래형 첨단도시 대구테크노폴리스에 있는 DGIST는 비전과 연구 기반을 고루 갖춘 탁월한 입지조건을 바탕으로 기존 연구원 시설과 더불어 이번에 완성된 캠퍼스 건설로 국내 최고수준의 연구중심대학으로 한층 다가설 것이라 기대한다.

DGIST was established as a national research and development institute in 2004 for setting up step visions and objectives, as well as focusing on training individuals to help advance the institution towards becoming a worldwide convergence research focused college. Since then, several years have passed and DGIST VISION has now been announced as a means to work towards achieving this ultimate vision and its objectives. DGIST is located in Daegu technopolis, which itself is a future-tech city, and is expected to become the highest level research focused college as part of this campus project, largely due to its perfect location. This DGIST BTL project is funded by private capital, prior to government budget, to help complete the project while also collect investing amounts as a lease for 20 years. This project is made up of housing facilities, sports facilities, and education facilities. This government-led project (Ministry of Education and Science/Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning) has had 400 billion KRW in private capital invested into it, with its site sized at 200,000PY(Total Floor Area : 77,000PY) and with the buildings being supported by a reinforced concrete structure, resulting in a construction period that lasted 40 months.
